Almost everybody can use eyelash extensions to increase the appeal and look of their eyes. The difference will be instant – your eyes will look sparkly and refreshed immediately! As the glue is applied directly to the eyelash and does not touch the skin, there is very rarely any issue with allergic reactions. The Classic, Volume, and Hybrid extension styles are available.
Eyelash extensions are applied to your natural eyelashes. These individual strands are attached using a medical-grade glue that will not harm the delicate tissues of your eyes.
Yes. This is one of our favourite things about eyelash extensions – you can have pretty eyes when you wake up, straight out of the shower, and even out of the pool! If you’re swimming in water that is chlorinated or salty, splash your extensions with fresh water afterwards or cleanse them with our LashGame Foaming Cleanser. Avoid detergents, oily soaps and eye-rubbing and your lashes should last well. Try to pat them dry gently.
No – once your eyelash extensions are applied, they should feel just like your normal lashes. The eyelash extension is bonded to the actual lash (not your eyelid) so it feels just like your normal lashes. The only way that lashes can become uncomfortable is if you repeatedly rub your eyes or are rough with your extensions – this can damage or twist the extensions, which could make them feel awkward on your eye.
Yes, you can – as long as it oil-free and very low in glycol/glycerin. These ingredients attack the glue, loosening the lash bond and causing extensions to fall. We’d recommend:
Liquid/pen liner (oil-free, of course) – gel liner tends to stick in the roots of the lashes and is tough to remove. We stock great, tested products here
Powder-type eyeshadows are fine – check the ingredients list of liquid/stick eyeshadow for glycol and glycerin, as sometimes these products are snuck in!
To avoid using mascara if possible – this product causes the extensions to clump together, and often contains oils to weaken the glue bond on your lashes. Especially waterproof mascara! If you are intent on wearing mascara, Lash Lady stocks Max2 Volume Up mascara made specifically for use on eyelash extensions. To get the best out of your extensions and mascara, just apply the product to the very tips of your lashes and avoid the roots.
PLEASE DON’T use mascara on volume or hybrid lashes – regardless of which brand you use, mascara makes volume fans snap shut. This means your lashes will look clumpy and stick together. We will not be able to infill volume lashes that have had mascara applied to them.
The Xtreme is the only product we recommend. It is known to support long lasting eyelash extentions.
Classic lashes are individual strands applied over one natural lash. They are applied on a 1:1 ratio, which means one extension on one natural lash. This allows you to achieve an understated, natural enhancement. The Classic lashes are suitable for people with a good amount of healthy natural lashes, people who have few gaps in their lash line, and people who wish to stick to a somewhat natural look with their extensions.
If you want eyelash extensions that will only be noticeable to your friends who know what eyelash extensions look like, classic eyelashes are a great place to start. Classic eyelash extensions come in a range of materials, thicknesses (1 – 1.5mm) and styles, so talk to your technician about the look you are trying to achieve.
Classic lash extension application typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours (if someone tells you they can do it in under an hour, it’s not a good sign). The result should be soft, natural-looking lashes your friends won’t know isn’t just a great mascara.
Classic Eyelash Extensions
The biggest difference is in the result you can achieve with each – classic lashes won’t add much volume but will add length. Classic eyelash extensions offer you an even lash line that opens up the eye. It helps you look made-up right from the moment you wake up, and builds on your natural lash beauty.
Hybrid Lashes
Hybrid lashes offer you a varied texture and more volume, but without the sometimes-unnatural look of volume lashes. This is the look the Kardashians made popular, so the lash line is broken and almost “spikey”. Though of course, the lashes are very soft! If you look at Hollywood stars and wonder how they all have such beautiful and long natural lashes, here’s your answer!
Volume Eyelash extensions
Volume eyelash extensions vary from an extremely natural look which adds some length and volume (2D and 3D lashes), to a very dramatic and full look (5D up). 5D and higher may look like you are wearing false lashes all the time. Though of course the lashes are attached to your natural lashes. So there is no bulky strip or lash separation to be seen. 2D lashes are very comparable to classic lashes, just with some extra volume which may be just what you’re looking for.
Classic lashes are applied individually on a 1:1 ratio, hybrid typically uses 30% classic lashes and 70% volume lashes (variable ratio), and volume ranges from 1:2 to 1:10 generally.
Another difference to take into consideration is the cost of application. Classic lashes require little preparation, so are a much more affordable option if budget is important to you. This is because volume lashes require a higher level of skill and larger time investment on the part of the technician, as they handmake the fans beforehand. More info is available here.
Any! It really does depend on the look you want to achieve and on your natural lashes. If you are lucky enough to have thick natural lashes you may decide to get classic lashes, so your look isn’t too dramatic.
If you don’t have naturally thick lashes, you may prefer to choose hybrid lash extensions to get the best of both worlds. Of course, 3D eyelash extensions and other volumes will likely give you lashes you won’t stop looking at.
The answer to this question can only be answered by you. And if you aren’t sure, discuss the options with your eyelash extension technician. They will be able to help you achieve the look you are looking for and talk to you about what is best for your natural eyelashes.
Are you someone who wears fake eyelashes whenever you go out? If so, you’ll love the full look volume lashes can achieve – you’ll have that full look without having to apply or remove them! If not, discuss hybrid and classic lashes for a natural look.
Volume lashes (also known as Russian volume lash extensions) were invented by Russian technicians only recently. It is a new technique that involves applying synthetic mink extensions using a specialized application method where between Two and Six extremely lightweight lashes are applied to a single natural lash. This involve applying a “fan” of lash extensions to one lash. So, instead of the 1:1 ratio of classic lashes, you may have a 1:3 or 1:5. This is how the luxurious volume is achieved! This creates an intense, voluminous look with soft and fluffy lashes. The result is absolutely stunning lashes.
2D, 3D, 5D define the number of lashes in each fan. So, if a lash look you like is “3D” it has a 1:3 ratio. 2D and 3D lashes give a natural, voluminous look, while higher volumes give a dramatic look. The highest volume you are likely to find is 10D – though this is an extreme falsie look!
Hybrid lashes are a 70-30 mixture of both classic lashes and volume lashes. Choosing hybrid eyelash extensions gives you the best of both worlds. You can try volume lashes for the first time and get the beautiful Kardashian look, as it was first popularised by them. That way, you can accentuate the outer corner of your eyes with a more dramatic, Russian Volume technique and slightly highlight your natural beauty in the inner corner of your eye.
This look has since spread across Hollywood. Stars love it because it offers a wispy, natural lash line with a little drama. The look is achieved by mixing classic lashes and volume lashes placed strategically to frame the eyes.
If you’re new to lash extensions, you’ll want to get a “full set” of lashes the first time you come into The Lash Lounge. Yep, it’s the same terminology you’ve heard at the nail salon. When you get a full set, we’ll get you started with extensions by fully covering your lash line with long, lovely lashes! Depending on the lash level you’re after, we will then apply between 60–120 natural lashes per eye during this service. We are not a “one size fits all” lash salon. We use our proprietary lash design technique that uses your natural features as our lash canvas. We’ll create a custom look unique to you…and only you. We have several different lash types, curls and fullness levels to choose from.
Before your first application, your stylist will take you through a personalized consultation. During this time, you will share a little about the lash look you have in mind, as well as your lifestyle. This will help you and your stylist determine the very best custom lash creation for you—one that is safe for and enhances your natural lashes.
A full set of eyelash extensions typically takes around two hours to apply, but it can vary slightly based on the number of your natural lashes, the application method and lash design you choose. This may sound like a long time, but when you think about it, this is detailed work! And, since both safety and quality are #1 in our book, we work diligently and carefully to maintain the integrity of your natural lashes while crafting your dream lash look!
Did you know that, with or without lash extensions, most of us lose 20–30% of our natural lashes every two weeks? It’s a fact! This is why we recommend going in for a refill every two to three weeks to ensure that your lash line stays looking fabulous and oh-so full.
Here’s the scoop: a full refill involves applying eyelash extensions on new hair growth (new lashes) to give your lash line a full and refreshed lease on life. Both of these services begin by removing any long or overgrown eyelash extensions followed by replacing and applying new extensions. A full refill includes 25–45 new extensions applied per eye to really nail that fullness factor. If more always equals better for you, you can also up the ante with 10, 20 or 30 extra lashes.
